Riot Games will host the first official League of Legends event in the Middle East and North Africa region later this week when the "The Nexus" takes place in Saudi Arabia, the organization announced Monday.
The event runs from Thursday through Saturday and will be part of the Riyadh Season, an initiative by the Saudi General Entertainment Authority to help transform the nation into a globally recognized tourist and entertainment destination.
The event features a total prize pool of $2 million across five competitions: a five-on-five tournament ($850,000), an "influencer tournament" ($750,000), a one-on-one tournament, a Teamfight Tactics tournament and cosplay competition. The final three competitions will split the remaining $400,000.
"We have been working on ways to deliver local experiences to our communities and players across the MENA region,"Onur Tamer, METAI General Manager at Riot Games, said in the news release. "The Nexus is our first step in solidifying our presence in the region to support and celebrate our players."
