Freiburg and Hamburg settle for goalless draw

Freiburg and Hamburg battled out an uninspiring goalless draw on Friday night which did little to boost either side's position in the Bundesliga standings.

Neither goalkeeper was unduly tested at the Schwarzwald Stadion as the teams toiled for a point apiece which left them in 16th and 15th spots, respectively.

Nils Petersen saw a long-range volley tipped over the bar by HSV goalkeeper Christian Mathenia in the 10th minute and Christian Gunter fired into the side-netting after bursting through seven minutes later as the hosts pushed for the opener.

Alexander Schwolow got down well three minutes later to keep out a first-time effort from Hamburg midfielder Aaron Hunt following Filip Kostic's pull-back.

Freiburg striker Janik Haberer found himself through on goal four minutes after the restart but his effort was deflected over the bar by Hamburg defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

Yoric Ravet had the ball in the net for the home team four minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside, and that was as close as either side went as the game petered out.
