TOP STORY: Arsenal starlet Martinelli on Real Madrid radar
There's a young player doing well in Europe, so of course Real Madrid are going to be linked, but it's amazing how quickly Arsenal's 18-year-old striker Gabriel Martinelli has appeared on their radar.
Martinelli has impressed since arriving in the summer for around £6m from Brazilian club Ituano and scored a superb goal in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.
His 10 goals in 21 games for the Gunners has alerted Real, says the Daily Mail, but Arsenal are keen to head off any speculation with talks underway over a new contract already (even though his current deal doesn't expire until 2024), which would raise his wages from £10,000-a-week to £30,000.
23.30 GMT: That will do it for the latest edition of our LIVE Transfer Talk blog. We hoped you enjoyed following along with us and remind you to check back shortly for the latest transfer rumours, reports and completed deals. Goodnight!
23.04 GMT: Edinson Cavani is pushing for a move from PSG with Atletico Madrid reportedly his desired landing spot. Chelsea are also pushing hard for the Uruguayan but a new team has reportedly thrown their hat in the ring for "El Matador."
The Telegraph writes that Manchester United -- yes, them again! -- have tentatively explored signing the PSG frontman. With Marcus Rashford out for eight weeks, Man United need a striker with Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood the only options at the club.
With 351 goals in 577 club games for PSG, Napoli, Palermo and Danubio and 50 goals in 116 appearances for his country, Cavani's goalscoring record speaks for itself. A strong character and leader, Cavani would also bring experience to a young side that is short on leaders and strong personalities.
United are hesitant to make a move, though, as the don't want a repeat of the Alexis Sanchez Experiment, which backfired tremendously. At 32 and with a few injuries starting to mount over the past few seasons are United ready to gamble on a striker like Cavani? Stay tuned...
22.36 GMT: We mentioned Chelsea might be in the market for a goalkeeper. Could Burnley's Nick Pope fit the bill?
The Blues paid a record £72 million for Kepa Arrizabalaga just 18 months ago but have reportedly not been thrilled with the Spaniard's recent play. The main question with Kepa has been his confidence and unwillingness to take command of his box.
Pope, 27, has emerged as one of the Premier League's better 'keepers over the last two seasons and according to the Daily Mail, could be brought in to push and challenge the former Athletic Bilbao man.
22.00 GMT: Leicester are third in the table but don't tell Brendan Rodgers that is good enough.
The Foxes are looking to further strengthen their squad and transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has told Sky Sports that the 2016 title winners are plotting a shock move for PSV and Netherlands winger Steven Bergwijn.
The 22-year-old has been one of Europe's most prolific attackers over the past few seasons and this season has already racked up six goals and 13 assists. Leicester are already one of the better attacking units in the Premier League and the addition of the Netherlands international would also add to that.
21.11 GMT: Another update on Inter Milan, who have been one of if not THE busiest European side during the winter transfer window.
Antonio Conte's club has already unveiled former Premier Leaguers Ashley Young and Victor Moses and two more players could be ready to trade England for Italy with Tottenham's Christian Eriksen and Chelsea's Olivier Giroud linked.
Sky Italia reports that Giroud has agreed to personal terms with the second-place Serie A side but a deal is on hold as the two sides try and agree to a transfer fee. Chelsea also need to sign a replacement for the Frenchman, with Edinson Cavani and Moussa Dembele among the leading candidates.
There are also new reports on Eriksen's potential January move to the San Siro, with Sporitalia claiming that Tottenham have now agreed on midfielder Matias Vecino going the other way in a swap deal for the Dane. Vecino, 28, had been heavily linked with Everton, but the Merseyside club have reportedly cooled their interest in the Uruguayan playmaker.
20.35 GMT: What is the hold up regarding Bruno Fernandes' projected move to Man United?
Sky Sports reports that United and Sporting Lisbon are over £10 million apart in their valuations of the player. United reportedly had agreed to a £55 million transfer fee for the Portugal international, only to lower their offer to £42 million when learning the extent of Sporting's financial troubles.
Fernandes, who was linked with United and Tottenham over the summer, has 15 goals and 14 assists this season after racking up 32 and 18 a season ago. Man United need attacking recruits and Sporting need money, so someone needs to budge before another window closes without Fernandes getting his move!
20.07 GMT: The Chicago Fire saw former World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger retire at the end of last season and are still looking for a replacement.
Argentine reporter Agustin Sileo claims they have found their man in Velez Sarfield midfielder Gaston Gimenez. Sileo claims that the Fire are set to make a formal bid for the 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who could cost as much as $8 million.

Gimenez, who has one cap for Argentina, has played his entire career in Argentina split between Velez, Estudiantes, Godoy Cruz, Atletico Tucuman and Almirante Brown.
19.42 GMT: Promotion hopefuls Brentford are preparing a £5 million pound bid for teenage Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, according to The Mail, but the Championship club will have to beat out competition from fallen Italian giants AC Milan.
19.02 GMT: Talks between Sheffield United and Manchester United are underway, with the Premier League clubs negotiating the potential for goalkeeper Dean Henderson spending a third straight season on loan at Bramall Lane, according to Blades manager Chris Wilder.
"If the opportunity comes about that we could get him back on loan next season, we'd be all over that," he's quoted as saying in the Evening Standard. "It's a decision for Manchester United for him to come out to us for another year. We'd gladly take that. We've already started talking with them but he's their player and that decision will be made on behalf of Manchester United and their player, but he's been outstanding for us."
18.37 GMT: Club America manager Miguel Herrera has frozen out Roger Martinez from his squad, writes ESPN Mexico. David Beckham's MLS expansion franchise Inter Miami have been interested and willing to pay for the 25-year-old Colombia international, but he reportedly wants to hold out for move to Europe.
18.10 GMT: AC Milan forward Lucas Paqueta has asked to be left out of the squad for this weekend's Serie A clash with Brescia following rumours he could be on his way out of the club, sources have told ESPN. The Brazil international joined Milan from Flamengo a year ago for €35m and, after a strong second half of the campaign, failed to nail down a starting spot following a managerial change in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain are among the sides linked to Paqueta, with sporting director Leonardo a huge fan of his compatriot.
17.43 GMT: Juventus are willing to part with Emre Can so long as their €25m valuation is met, according to Goal, and the Bianconeri are now said to be awaiting an approach from Borussia Dortmund for the 26-year-old midfielder, who's also been linked with a return to Merseyside with Everton.
17.16 GMT: The Sun reports that for fear of missing out on Edinson Cavani -- who's reportedly determined to join Atletico Madrid -- Chelsea have reopened discussions with Lyon over 23-year-old striker Moussa Dembele, with Frank Lampard desperate for the West London club to ease the goal-scoring burden on Tammy Abraham.
16.49 GMT: Matteo Darmian's agent has been spotted at Inter Milan.
The 30-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Parma to Inter.
16.31 GMT: Newcastle are in advanced talks with Inter Milan to sign Valentino Lazaro, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano reports that the initial deal could be a €1.5m loan with an option to buy for €23.5m.
The 23-year-old Austrian midfielder has also reportedly held talks with RB Leipzig and Bologna.
16.04 GMT: Lyon and Hertha Berlin are close to finalising an agreement for defensive midfielder Lucas Tousart, according to L'Equipe.
The deal is reportedly worth €24m plus 10% of any profit made in the future.
The transfer for the 22-year-old isn't likely to take effect until this summer.
Tousart made his Lyon debut in 2015. He's made 17 league appearances this season, scoring two goals.
15.35 GMT: Inter Milan have announced the signing of Victor Moses from Chelsea.
15.09 GMT: Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of 16-year-old Louie Barry from Barcelona.
Barry joins the club for an initial fee of €700,000, although that could rise as high as €3 million depending on a series of add-ons which are mainly based on first team appearances.
The teenager returns to England just six months after he left West Brom for Spain.

14.54 GMT: Lukas Podolski has signed for Antalyaspor from Vissel Kobe.
14.43 GMT: Espanyol have completed the signing of Adri Embarba from Rayo Vallecano for €10m.
The winger has signed a contract until June 30, 2024 and is Espanyol's third major signing this transfer window.
14.37 GMT: This is the kind of greeting you get in MLS if you're a Mexico superstar. Welcome to LA, Chicharito.
14.14 GMT: Everton could be set to go after Napoli midfielder Allan, who has been linked with a host of clubs over the past year, including PSG.
Allan, 29, is evidently keen to reunite with former boss Carlo Ancelotti in the Premier League and the Brazilian will be allowed to leave Italy as Napoli have Diego Demme and Stanislav Lobotka to replace him.
But Tuttomercatoweb reports that Everton might not get a deal done this month.
14.02 GMT: Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could be set to join Sevilla after Javier Hernandez left for MLS side LA Galaxy.
Sky Sports claims that the Colombia international is top of the list of replacement, though Rangers will want around £40m for the 23-year-old.
13.30 GMT: You will read at 12.00 GMT why Real Sociedad might be in for a new striker ... But we're here to bring you news from Marca that the club are keen on Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz to replace Willian Jose.
Diaz, 26, has made two appearances for Madrid all season and didn't even play in the Copa del Rey clash with Unionistas de Salamanca in midweek.
13.09 GMT: MLS side D.C. United are reportedly back in the hunt for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to the Washington Post.
D.C. are hoping to replace Wayne Rooney, who left to join Derby County recently, and talks have been underway with a view to signing the German in January 2021.
12.56 GMT: French newspaper L'Equipe claimed that West Ham could re-sign Dimitri Payet, but the Evening Standard says that move is unlikely.
Payet, 32, enjoyed some of his best years in London but left the club for Marseille in 2017 after going on strike. The way he left means that a return is not on the cards.
West Ham need some players this month as they are in a relegation battle, but have so far only signed goalkeeper Darren Randolph.
12.40 GMT: PSG star Kylian Mbappe isn't talking up a move to Liverpool, is he?
12.07 GMT: Italian newspaper Tuttosport carries an odd claim that Manchester United are lining up a loan move for Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez.
Tevez, 35, only spoke last month about finishing his career at Boca so it's hard to see how United could persuade him, even if he did used to play for the club.
"Right now my life is Boca. These last few years that I have left, or the last one I have left, I'm going to put all of my focus on Boca. It may be my last year as a player," the former Argentina international told reporters in December. "There is nothing else that motivates me. If Real Madrid came for me, I'd tell them that I want to stay at Boca."
That said, our own Mark Ogden listed Tevez as a candidate for the growing ever-desperate United, rating the potential of a move at 4/10. Is 35-year-old Carlitos the answer? For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sake we hope not...
The talks have started around the €20-30m mark and will continue on Thursday with a view to reaching an agreement quickly.
The club had been keen on Chelsea's Olivier Giroud, but that deal appears to have stalled for now.
11.33 GMT: World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi has already confirmed he will retire from football at the age of 36, but Venezia president Joe Tacopina is hoping to change his mind and get the midfielder to move to Serie B.
De Rossi, who spent 18 years with boyhood club Roma after making his debut in 2001, left for Boca Juniors in July 2019 and helped the Argentine club reach the Copa Libertadores semifinals. He announced his retirement earlier this month but Tacopina told DAZN: "I know De Rossi from his time at Roma. I keep telling him he shouldn't end his career without having played for us: who wouldn't want to play at least one year at Venezia?"
11.26 GMT: Manchester United have reportedly launched a loan bid for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino but the Italian club have rejected it, according to Sky Italy.
With all the former (and some current) Man United players at Inter these days, you'd have thought the least that Antonio Conte's men could do was return the favour...
11.01 GMT: Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser has suffered a dip in form since he was one of the standout performers in the Premier League during 2018-19, providing 14 assists, but the Daily Mirror reports there will still be interest in the winger when he's a free agent in the summer.
Indeed, West Ham have reportedly joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the chase.
Despite heavy criticism of the keeper's free transfer to Bayern Munich this summer, where the 23-year-old will sit on the bench behind Germany captain Manuel Neuer, Backs believes "it's the right move for Alex in the long run."
Neuer, 33, is under contract at Bayern until 2021 and has yet to agree to a new deal, but Backs believes that Nubel will push to become Bayern's No. 1 in the coming year.
10.17 GMT: PSG striker Edinson Cavani looks set to be leaving the club this month but here's why he's more keen on Atletico Madrid than Chelsea or Man United.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel rejected the idea that PSG are disrespecting their all-time top goal scorer when he spoke with Canal+ after his team eased into the Coupe de la Ligue final with a 3-0 win away at Reims on Wednesday.
"No, we are not lacking respect towards Edinson," said Tuchel. "Edi was not there [due to injury] and that was a shame. He said he did not feel comfortable with his pubis, so it was not possible for him to be with us.
09.57 GMT: RB Leipzig are set to sign Dinamo Zagreb attacker Dani Olmo.
The Spain under-21 international is reportedly hoping to showcase his talents in the Bundesliga to push for a place in Spain's 2022 European Championship squad, kicker reports.
Barcelona had been interested but, should Olmo sign for RB Leipzig, the German club could allow Mattheus Cunha, 20, and former Everton winger Ademola Lookman to leave. The former has been linked with Jurgen Klinsmann's Hertha Berlin and the latter with Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old made nine appearances in all competitions, but never fully settled in Germany. He failed to show up on time for training after the winter break after already being cut from the squad towards the end of the first half of the season.
Aubameyang, 30, will have just one year left on his contract in the summer and isn't sure that the club is moving in the right direction. Barcelona are looking to replace the injured Luis Suarez this month and sources told ESPN that the Gabon striker is on their list of targets.
Arsenal would be mad to let him go in January though, so expect this one to drag into the summer.
09.02 GMT: Leicester are suffering a bit of a dip in form at the moment after their amazing start to the season, but they could bring in Southampton defender Jannik Vestegaard for £15m, says the Sun.
Vestergaard, 27, is seen as a solution to the Leicester defensive crisis which has seen Caklar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans left as the only fit central defenders at the club.
08.37 GMT: TyC Sports reports that River Plate have rejected an offer from West Ham for defender Gonzalo Montiel.
According to the Argentinian media outlet, the Premier League club offered €500,000 to acquire the player on a six-month loan with a €10m option to buy included in the deal.
Montiel, 23, is a regular at River and has made 64 appearances for the Buenos Aires giants since 2016. The right-back made his Argentina debut in March 2019 and is tied to River until June 2021.
The Spain midfielder moved to the Gunners in the summer on a season-long loan, but a muscular injury suffered in November has limited him to 17 appearances.
However, despite being back to full fitness since the start of the year, Ceballos has not featured off the bench under new manager Mikel Arteta and could opt to join another club on loan this month.
08.00 GMT: The agent of Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes has said he is not sure whether the Portugal international will move to Old Trafford this January.
Sources had told ESPN that United agreed personal terms with Fernandes over a move in this transfer window. However, failure to agree a fee with Sporting could lead United to walk away from a deal, according to ESPN sources.
"I don't know what will happen with Bruno Fernandes," Jorge Mendes told Sky Sports. "If he doesn't leave now, for sure he will leave in summer."
Meanwhile, former United manager Jose Mourinho took a slight jab at his former employers and their lengthy pursuit of Fernandes.
"How was Lisbon? Lisbon was good? So Bruno Fernandes come to United or no?" Tottenham boss Mourinho quipped after his side's 2-1 win over Norwich. "So you go to Lisbon and he's not coming? But coming or no?"

PAPER TALK (by Harry Kettle)
Chong destined for Manchester United exit
The Daily Mail is reporting that, while there is a lot of uncertainty in the January transfer window, one of the most obvious exits will come in the form of Tahith Chong. The teenager's contract is set to expire this summer, with the suggestion that he isn't at all interested in a renewal as he has not really broken into the United first team this season.
The likes of Inter Milan and Juventus are reported to be interested in making a move as Chong goes in search of a £50,000-per-week deal.
His agent, meanwhile, clearly isn't happy with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after claiming that he only "thinks about himself."
Bayern Munich interested in summer swoop for Hakimi
The full-back is owned by Real Madrid but has been turning heads during his two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, which ends this summer.
While Bayern have been looking at him since December, they previously felt as if a move in January would have been too complicated to arrange. Now, though, the Bundesliga champions are ready and willing to engage in a tug of war with Dortmund -- although it's unlikely that he'll stay with them beyond his loan spell.
Chelsea could go after new goalkeeper
The Daily Express reports that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could go after the signing of another goalkeeper. While No. 1 Kepa Arrizabalaga is the clear and obvious choice to start most games for the Blues, his form has been called into question in recent weeks following a string of questionable moments.
With Willy Caballero being out of contract in the summer, Chelsea could be ready to bring in a new keeper this summer that will challenge Kepa's position, though the report doesn't offer any names being linked.
- Inter Milan youngster Sebastiano Esposito could leave the club on loan during the January transfer window, Calciomercato reports. The 17-year-old is considered to be a highly rated prospect at the club, and they aren't considering the possibility of selling him. However, while a loan move may be possible, Inter boss Antonio Conte may not be as eager to see him depart.
- Malaga winger Hugo Vallejo is believed to be close to joining Real Madrid, Marca reports. All parties involved have agreed terms for his move, with Real being set to pay around €300,000 in addition to €1m in bonuses if he winds up playing 10 games for the senior squad. However, it's not yet known whether or not he'd be loaned back out upon a deal being made.
