Weather forced the Steelers to end practice early. Players and coaches left the field around 4:20 p.m. due to lightning in the area. Offensive assistant Blaine Stewart and camp guest Ray Sherman, the team's OC in 1998, helped coach receiver drills.

The Steelers are hurting after the loss of receivers coach Darryl Drake, who died Sunday. "We are all devastated," coach Mike Tomlin said. "I really can't think of any appropriate words." The Steelers have spent the last few days supporting the Drake family, and Tomlin has ordered grief counselors on site at Saint Vincent College. "Professionally, obviously the loss is significant but personally it's even bigger," Tomlin said.

Antonio Brown told an arbitrator during a two-hour hearing Friday that his long-time helmet kept him safe and -- save an illegal hit from Vontaze Burfict in the 2016 playoffs -- healthy. Arbitrator was receptive but didn't see a foundation to change rule. Ruling described by source asa ‘very kind denial.'

Bucs coach Bruce Arians got choked up when asked about the passing of Steelers wide receivers coach Darryl Drake: "The world lost a great person. Not just a great coach, but a great person, great father, husband, grandfather. He's a father figure to a lot of players. He's had some great players, but he was their dad. Just having spent all that time pre-game seeing him, and to think that he's gone, is just really hard to fathom. Prayers and condolences out to his family."

Darryl Drake was well-liked throughout the Steelers organization for his bright personality, football acumen and caring nature. During practices, everyone from his receivers to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could be seen chatting him up between drills. Drake was known for his colorful one-liners during practices, often telling his players ‘don't drag the toe, click it' during sideline-catch work.

Mason Rudolph when asked about James Washington reminding what he can do: "I don't think he ever disappeared," but he learned from his ups and downs as a rookie and has worked hard. Washington said he's more confident in Year 2 but adds for perspective, "it's the first preseason game."

James Washington made a compelling case for more looks in a Steelers passing game that needs viable options behind JuJu Smith-Schuster. Slimmed down in the offseason and growing in confidence, Washington did a bit of everything on his way to 84 yards -- snagging the deep ball from Josh Dobbs while absorbing contact, connecting on a back-shoulder touchdown play with college teammate Mason Rudolph and nearly securing a second touchdown with an outstretched, barely-out-of-bounds catch in the corner of the end zone.
