The Suns kind of looked like something in the fourth quarter. Their young guys were fantastic, from Booker's fireworks, to Josh Jackson knocking down some clutch shots, to Deandre Ayton protecting the rim. A lot of energy in the building, and a little something to be excited about in Phoenix.

Booker flies to the bucket for and-1 (0:21)

Really impressive door slamming by Devin Booker in the fourth quarter. He got an extended rest in the third because of some foul trouble, but has been on fire since checking back in. There's a lot of belief he's on the verge of a leap into superstardom, and this is the kind of thing he needs to do more consistently.

Canaan's pass leads to Ayton dunk (0:20)
Ariza drains shots on back-to back possessions (0:18)

The Suns are a work in progress and will spend a lot of this season figuring out who they are, but they're going to be competitive on a nightly basis. Trevor Ariza looks like a quality addition (14 points on 5-8 shooting in the first half) and there's some chemistry flashing between Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton.

No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton had the stronger first half in his debut against No. 3 pick Luka Doncic as his Phoenix Suns took a 56-46 lead over the Dallas Mavericks to the break. Ayton had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes, knocking down a pair of midrange jumpers and finishing an and-one with the foul on Doncic. Doncic showed his court vision, handing out three assists to DeAndre Jordan, including a behind-the-back pass for a dunk. However, Doncic missed all three shots he attempted outside the paint.

Ayton flips it in with his left hand (0:20)

It's not hard to see what has the NBA world captivated by Luka Doncic's potential. The flash is what catches the eye, but he's completely under control and poised with the ball. It's almost as if he's been playing professionally at a very high level already.

Ayton backs down Doncic for first points (0:17)
