Trevon Bluiett has a decision to make

The Xavier junior forward made an impression on NBA scouts in the NCAA tournament. Bluiett should test the draft waters, but he may benefit from a senior season.

ESPN Stats and Information

Xavier's struggles from the perimeter doomed its Final Four chances, with Gonzaga outscoring the Musketeers 50-16 on jump shots on Saturday. The Zags also shot 29 percent better than Xavier on jump shots from field goal range.

Gonzaga routs Xavier, makes 1st Final Four

Nigel Williams-Goss scored 23 points while orchestrating Gonzaga's efficient offense, and the Zags routed Xavier 83-59 on Saturday to reach the Final Four for the first time.

Gonzaga routs Xavier 83-59 to earn first berth in Final Four (first in school history and first team to earn a berth this year). The ViewFromVegas is the Bulldogs also covered as 8.5-point favorites and the game stayed under the betting total of 145 points. Gonzaga was the 7-5 favorite at the Westgate SuperBook to win the West Regional before the NCAA tournament started.

Gonzaga got to the precipice of its first Final Four with a dominant defensive performance against West Virginia. It made that Final Four a reality with Saturday's incredible offensive explosion.

Xavier has done an admirable job of getting to the rim, and finished with 39 points in 35 trips against one of the best defenses in the country. Less admirable: XU shot just five 3s in the half and didn't make their first until Trevon Bluiett's with one minute left in the first half. Gonzaga is 8-of-13 from deep. Something will need to change for the Musketeers; the current state of affairs is unsustainable.

If Gonzaga continues to play almost completely turnover-free and to make a 3 every two and a half minutes, this will be one tall order for Xavier. The Bulldogs shot 8-of-13 from beyond the arc, with Josh Perkins leading the way with three triples. The scouting report says to let the Zags take those, but Mark Few's guys have been knocking them down.

First-half jump shots, via ESPN Stats & Info: • Gonzaga: 14-24 (58.3%) for 36 points (8-13 from 3) • Xavier: 4-15 (26.7%) for 9 points (1-5 from 3)

Wild ending to the first half in San Jose, with the freak own-goal of the tournament bouncing in on Gonzaga's end, followed by J.P. Macura's just-late 80-foot buzzer beater off the glass. Chris Mack walked to the locker room making the universal symbol for "count the bucket." Someone will have to relay the bad news.

Jonathan Williams wasn't even acknowledged by a closeout when he hit his first 3. A couple makes later and he's able to shot fake and drive. And-one.

Gonzaga poses a ton of issues in the half-court for Xavier because of how well they shoot and how effective Przemek Karnowski is as a passer. Hard to zone them, hard to double Karnowski.

Just before Przemek Karnowski picked up his second foul, he put an extra no-look walk into a kick out to Nigel Williams-Goss, who banged a 3. Karnowski pumped his fist and screamed "let's go Nig!" at his point guard. Gonzaga's on an 8-2 run.

Chris Mack stressed yesterday that his team (and, in his view, any team) had to get the ball inside to succeed offensively. The Musketeers take the highest percentage of their field goals around the rim of any team left in the bracket, per hoop-math.com. Thus far they've taken two 3s in 21 field goal attempts -- almost all of which have been at the rim.
