The Florida-South Carolina East Region Elite Eight marks the first time two teams are meeting in this round after not making the NCAA tournament the previous season since UConn-Arizona in 2011. Neither made the 2010 NCAA tournament.

The Miller family now can claim they are at two of the best jobs in the country with Sean at Arizona and Archie at Indiana. Quite impressive under one family roof.

Archie Miller at IU makes sense. Calipari, others talked Sean Miller into leaving A-10 at time to get on national stage. Same here for Arch

True story: Xavier is going to the Elite Eight. Trailing Arizona by eight with 3:45 to play enters the dustbin (or makeshift urn) of recent XU history right next to that six-game February losing streak. Pandemonium.

Pretty great first half to the nightcap in San Jose. Xavier's suddenly impenetrable matchup zone has given the Wildcats some fits, and Xavier is getting buckets on the other end, but Sean Miller will probably be feeling OK in the locker room, at least where his offense is concerned. His team went 3-of-16 from 3 but 11-of-18 from two, grabbed a bunch of offensive boards against a great rebounding team and scored 1.19 points per trip. That's pretty darn good.

Today's NCAA men's Sweet 16 games about to start. The ViewFromVegas is: Michigan -1 vs. Oregon (despite No. 7 vs. No. 3) O/U 148; Gonzaga -3 vs. West Virginia O/U 150; Kansas -5.5 vs. Purdue O/U 155.5; Arizona -7.5 vs. Xavier O/U 144.5.

Will Markkanen shoot more 3s?

Arizona freshman Lauri Markkanen is high on our Sweet 16 Big Board, but he's been surprisingly reluctant to shoot 3s in the NCAA tournament.

ESPN Stats and Information

Sean Miller's .679 winning percentage in the NCAA tournament is the best among any coach to never appear in a Final Four (min. 10 games), better than Dr. Tom Davis (.621) and Steve Lavin (.611).

Make-or-break player: Kadeem Allen

Allen brings toughness and defense on the perimeter for the Wildcats, and that can't be underestimated.

Sweet 16 "seed scores" (coach's record of advancing in tourney relative to seed, since 2002): Greg Gard (1.50), John Beilein (1.35), Chris Mack (1.19), Frank Martin (1.18), Chris Holtmann (1.17), Sean Miller (1.12), John Calipari (1.06), Matt Painter (1.06), Roy Williams (1.03), Dana Altman (1.00), Scott Drew (1.00), Mike White (1.00), Mark Few (0.90), Steve Alford (0.84), Bob Huggins (0.84), Bill Self (0.79).

ESPN Stats and Information

ESPN's BPI favors Arizona Thursday night in its Sweet 16 matchup with coach Sean Miller's former team, Xavier (10:09 p.m. ET). All-time, coaches are 3-4 when facing their former teams in NCAA tournament games; Arizona bounced XU from the tournament in the 2015 Sweet 16 in Miller's sole meeting against the Muskies.

ESPN Stats and Information

Headed into Thursday's Sweet 16 games, Gonzaga's Mark Few is tied with Hall of Fame former Temple coach John Chaney for most NCAA tournament wins without a Final Four appearance (min. 10 games). Arizona's Sean Miller, who could potentially meet Few in the West Regional Final, ranks third all-time for such wins.

FiveThirtyEight: Tough road for Arizona

According to FiveThirtyEight's round-by-round probabilities, Arizona has a 68 percent chance to beat Xavier on Thursday night. However, the Wildcats' path is significantly tougher after that.

ESPN Stats and Information

ESPN's BPI breaks down who has the best chance to reach the elusive Final Four -- with three (fairly) clear frontrunners, including fourth-seeded Florida.
