Tiger Woods seems to have found something in his swing after making two early bogeys. Back to back birdies on the 8th and 9th has TW Even par making the turn.
This is shaping up to be a long day at Riviera, and for Tiger Woods the possibility of 27-plus holes in one day is a bit daunting in damp, cool weather. In 2018, Woods did have a similar marathon day: at the PGA Championship, where on Saturday he had to finish 11 holes of the second round and then played 18 holes for a total of 29. He shot 4-under 66 in both rounds and ended up second in the tournament. Of course, that was in St. Louis, where temperatures were in the 90s.
In what was probably inevitable, Matt Kuchar has been subject of some negative comments from the gallery at Riviera today in the aftermath of stories that emerged about how he under-paid his local fill-in caddie when he won the Makakoba Classic in November. The reaction has been swift and not kind to Kuchar, who won nearly $1.3-million but paid his caddie just $5,000. Kuchar heard some ribbing on the first tee and at several other times through the early part of his first round of the Genesis Open.
