In a wild and wacky series with nothing on the line, Team ROCCAT ran away with a 2-0 win over Misfits on Saturday to open Week 10, Day 3 of the European League of Legends Championship Series in Berlin.
With Misfits (6-7, 14-18 match record) safely locked into the third seed of Group A and ROCCAT (5-8, 14-19 match record) locked out of the playoffs in the fourth seed, both teams decided to have a bit of fun on Saturday. The first game of this series saw a team composition the likes of which would turn heads even in solo queue. ROCCAT went with the, well, interesting composition of Ekko, Draven, Nunu, Heimerdinger and Lee Sin. Yes, you read that correctly. That's a Draven jungle and Lee Sin support for ROCCAT. Not content to be left out the fun, Misfits took Kayle in the top lane and Master Yi in the jungle.
The game got underway with some classic League of Legends Pro League fiesta-type hype, as there were a combined 18 kills in the first 12 minutes of the game. As the game drew on, Misfits was simply unable to match the teamfighting prowess of this oddball composition from ROCCAT, which gave ROCCAT the win. As much fun as Game 1 truly was, though, Game 2 was a bit more of a standard affair, but not by much. All it took was ROCCAT top laner Ambrož "Phaxi" Hren going off on Jarvan IV to the tune of a 12/3/2 KDA (kills/deaths/assists) for ROCCAT to easily take the 26-minute win.
While this series had no bearing for the final outcome of the season, it was no doubt a bit of a disappointment for Misfits not to head into the playoffs with a win. On the other hand, ROCCAT has continued its trend of finishing the season strong and could be on the verge of a breakout next split.
Misfits will now start preparing for its first playoff match against the Unicorns of Love next weekend, while Team ROCCAT bides its time until the 2018 Spring Split starts up next January.
