WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman on Thursday told ESPN that lightweight titlist Devin Haney has had surgery on the right shoulder he injured in his defense against Alfredo Santiago on Nov. 9 and because he will be sidelined has been reclassified as it's "champion in recess." To fill the world title vacancy, Sulaiman said former junior lightweight titlist Javier Fortuna, the mandatory challenger Haney has been ordered to face, and former two-time title challenger Luke Campbell have been ordered to meet. If they don't make a deal a purse bid will be held on Jan. 3.
