Georgia has been ranked in the preseason poll each of the last 16 years, last missing in 2001. In 12 of those 16 years, the Bulldogs have been ranked between 8th and 23rd, and in nine of those years, they were ranked between 11th and 19th. Georgia starts the 2017 season at No. 15.

Alabama is the only SEC team ranked in the preseason Top 10. It's the first time since 2003 that the SEC has had just one team in the preseason Top 10. That year, LSU won the BCS Title with a preseason ranking of 14. LSU is 13th in preseason poll this year, while Auburn, Georgia and Florida are 12th, 15th and 17th, respectively.
