Introducing the ESPN All-Bowl team

Not surprisingly, Alabama and Georgia dominate the top performances from bowl season. But they're not the only ones who starred during the postseason.

New coaches earn mixed results in early signing period

Coaches who took over at new schools had a tough task getting rolling before the early signing period. Some, including Chip Kelly and Dan Mullen, have survived, while others have a lot of work to do to salvage their classes.

With the latest wave of coaching changes complete in the SEC, that means the rest of the league has now had 43 different head coaches since Nick Saban was hired at Alabama in 2007. All but Georgia, LSU, Missouri and South Carolina have had three different head coaches since Saban arrived. Arkansas and Tennessee lead the way, each with five different head coaches.

Source: Mississippi State is hiring Mark Hudspeth as tight ends coach. Hudspeth spent the last seven seasons as Louisiana-Lafayette's head coach before being let go Sunday. He coached Mississippi State's wide receivers in 2009-10. Football Scoop first reported the hire.

Sources tell Chris Low and me that Mississippi State is hiring Bob Shoop as its defensive coordinator. Shoop spent the past two years at Tennessee after serving as defensive coordinator at Penn State and Vanderbilt.

How about Mississippi State getting two of the four First Team All-SEC defensive linemen? Montez Sweat and Jeffery Simmons combined for 14 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and 3 blocked kicks this season. If Sweat comes back for his senior year, Joe Moorhead might have inherited the best d-line in the SEC. The Bulldogs will also add talented transfer Chauncey Rivers to the mix after he took an academic redshirt this past season.
