Scout's Take: ATH Bryan Addison to UCLA

Bryan Addison, the first ESPN 300 commitment of the Chip Kelly era, has two-way talent but figures to initially see time at wide receiver.

ESPN 300 athlete Bryan Addison committed to UCLA on Sunday night. Addison, the No. 209 ranked prospect out of Gardena, California, is the first ESPN 300 commitment for new coach Chip Kelly and his staff. He gives the Bruins five ESPN 300 commitments in the 2018 class.

Sources: UCLA is hiring former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads to coach defensive backs. Sports Illustrated first reported the move. Rhoads most recently coached the secondary at Arkansas. He joins a defensive staff that will include Don Pellum and Jerry Azzinaro, both former Kelly assistants at Oregon.

Hearing that Will Muschamp plans to talk with quite a few candidates for South Carolina's offensive coordinator vacancy. Expect UCLA offensive coordinator/interim head coach Jedd Fisch to gain consideration there. Toledo's Brian Wright is another possibility.

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen is growing tired of the speculation about his pending announcement on whether to declare for the NFL draft. “Please stop reporting false news,” he wrote on Twitter. “I have not made any significant decisions and do not plan on it any time soon. All you guys are doing is making me answer calls and texts from concerned friends and family members.” Rosen has a year of eligibility remaining at UCLA, but could potentially be the No. 1 overall pick should he depart. He has practiced with the team following its regular-season finale and has said he plans to play in the Bruins' bowl game. UCLA plays Kansas State in the Cactus Bowl on Dec. 26.

"Jerry and Don are two of the top defensive coaches in the business, bringing more than 60 seasons of combined football experience to our staff," Kelly said in a statement. Azzinaro was on Kelly's staffs in Oregon, Phildelphia and San Francisco and most recently coached at Cal. Pellum did not coach in 2017 after more than 30 years at Oregon.

Dan Mullen landed his first commitment as Florida head coach Wednesday night when offensive lineman Chris Bleich announce his commitment. Bleich, a four-star from Pennsylvania, flipped his decision from UCLA to the Gators after previously being committed to Penn State and decommitting from the Nittany Lions in April.

It didn't take Chip Kelly very long to reel in his first commitment at UCLA, when he landed California running back Kazmeir Allen on Wednesday. In fact, the first time the two spoke was Tuesday night, and Allen committed the next day. "He said he would use me in his offense like De'Anthony Thomas and LaMichael James," Allen said. "His offense is a great fit for me." Allen had 60 rushing touchdowns his senior season with nearly 3,000 yards on the ground.
