UCLA and USC added big pieces to their 2018 recruiting classes on Sunday. The Bruins scored a huge quarterback prize in Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the nation's No. 50 overall prospect and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback. Thompson-Robinson would be the first ESPN 300 quarterback signed by UCLA since Josh Rosen in the 2015 class, who finished that year as the No. 50 overall prospect. The Trojans got a commitment from a big name and presence along the defensive line in No. 6 defensive tackle and No. 102 overall prospect Tuli Letuligasenoa. USC signed two ESPN 300 defensive tackles in the 2017 class in Jay Tufele and Marlon Tuipulotu, as the Trojans are making a concerted effort to load up along the defensive line.

Kiper's favorite 2017 prospects: Takkarist McKinley

McKinley is a late bloomer who came on as a senior in 2016 with 10 sacks and three forced fumbles. He compares favorably to his peers at outside linebacker.

As usual, the Pac-12 and West region dominate the quarterback discussion. Of the top 11 quarterbacks in the nation, seven have ties to the Pac-12 or West region. Nos. 2 and 7 pocket passers Jacob Sirmon and Colson Yankoff are committed to Washington, No. 3 pocket passer and No. 32 overall prospect Adrian Martinez is committed to Cal, No. 48 overall prospect Tanner McKee resides in Southern California, No. 50 overall prospect and No. 3 dual-threat quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson hails from Nevada and could commit to UCLA over Michigan this weekend and Nos. 64 and 67 overall prospects, Jack West and Matt Corral, are committed to Stanford and USC, respectively.

Make-or-break players: Josh Rosen

The Bruins fell apart after Rosen got hurt last season, and they'll need his best to turn things around. As one Pac-12 assistant notes, "Everything goes as Rosen goes."

Future defense rankings: UCLA

UCLA senior Jaleel Wadood and junior Adarius Picket will form one of the Pac-12's best safety tandems next season. Help is on the way at cornerback, too.

Oregon made the largest jump into the FPI Top 25 since the end of 2016. The Ducks return nine starters on both sides of the ball, and their 2017 recruiting class features a pair of ESPN 300 defensive backs. Fellow Pac-12 team UCLA has also made a similar 20-spot jump to No. 23 thanks to the return of QB Josh Rosen from injury. (ESPN Stats and Info)

Preseason FPI: UCLA is on the rise

UCLA is ranked No. 23 after finishing outside of FPI's top 40 last season. The Bruins return nine offensive starters, including star QB Josh Rosen.

Funny moment from Josh Rosen's interview session today: It was pointed out that he would be draft-eligible at he end of the season and Rosen quickly jumped in, "You don't have to finish that question."

Josh Rosen said he considers himself lucky because his shoulder injury could have been worse and needed only four-to-five months of rehab to get back to full strength.

UCLA fullback Cameron Griffin is no longer with the program. Coach Jim Mora said Griffin, who would have been a redshirt junior in 2017, elected to take a medical retirement as a result of head injuries.

Pac-12 offensive triplets: No. 7 UCLA

UCLA has one of the nation's elite QBs in Josh Rosen, but they will need more consistency at receiver and improvement from a weak running game.

Pac-12 defensive triplets: No. 10 UCLA

UCLA is losing a lot of talent and experience on defense, making it all the more important that the likes of linebacker Kenny Young step up in 2017.

Seven schools remain in the mix for Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the nation's No. 4 dual-threat quarterback. Thompson-Robinson released his list of seven finalists via twitter, as Cal, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina and UCLA remain in the hunt to sign the No. 107 overall prospect and No. 2 uncommitted quarterback at this time. It looks like this could come down to a battle between Michigan and UCLA, as the Bruins established themselves early as the program to beat for Thompson-Robinson and his teammate, ESPN 300 tight end Brevin Jordan, while Thompson-Robinson's mother attended Michigan. Cal was not on his initial top-12 list, while Florida State and Oregon are programs to watch and could make a move.
